Speaking Japanese

It really is hard to gauge how this administration sees itself. With the latest Gallup poll showing more disapprove of Obama than approve (by a 3 point margin), I think they're desperately trying to find something, an issue, a crisis, a policy, anything, that Obama can latch his greedy, redistributing hands on to, to look more presidential. Sadly, his latest attempts at looking presidential have failed miserably.

After the socialist takeover victory, despite massive public disapproval, in the healthcare arena Obama decided to play at world leader. Unfortunately for us, Obama is like a young Harry Potter dabbling in the dark arts far before he is ready for such power or responsibility. During the campaign, the Left was always concerned about our appearance on the world stage because they felt, maybe rightly, that Bush's policies had alienated us to some degree from some of our allies. If your ally is not willing to stand by you in times of need, especially after you've stuck your neck out for them, then maybe such alienation is not a bad thing. But Obama has been intent on looking presidential. He has to if he wants to turn around the perception that his party is out of touch with America. After all, if you're not going to actually listen to the American people, what better way to raise their opinion of you than embroiling yourself in foreign affairs? It also effectually diminishes Hillary, but that is another topic, for another day.

So, let's consider Obama's puerile attempts at acting presidential. As you have no doubt read about, Obama has demanded from Netanyahu that the Israelis cease and desist building new homes in certain disputed areas of their own country. Then when Netanyahu visited the White House recently, he was treated just about as well as Obama treats his own half-brother George (all that talk about taking care of each other apparently doesn't extend to one's own family, just constituents whose votes you crave). Now it's one thing to abuse a foreign leader who is antagonistic to you, but Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East. For Obama to stick his nose in their business about where Jewish homes are built would be akin to Netanyahu siding with some native Powhatans who wanted to lay claim to parts of Washington, DC.

Obama's latest bout of stupidity comes in his attempt to emulate British leaders of the past. . I've heard conservatives joke that it takes a Carter to get a Reagan, to give the movement hope that something good will come of this train wreck of a presidency. Well, it is probably more accurate to say that it takes a Chamberlain to get a Churchill. While Obama may think he's looking Churchillian, he reminds me more of Chamberlain. The reason Republican presidents often look so hawkish compared to their predecessors is because they have to come in and clean up the foreign policy mess left by their dovish predecessors. However, in this case, we'll be lucky if survive long enough to get a Reagan or Churchill, for Obama's recently announced nuclear policy is outright idiotic. Obama stated, for the world to hear and anyone listening, that we wouldn't use nuclear weapons on non-nuclear countries in a retaliatory manner.

First, if you want to have that policy, fine, but you don't announce it to your opponents, unless you're just dumber than a bag of hammers. You may, internally, agree that you won't retaliate with nukes, but you don't tell them that – let them fear that you might. And second, what is the point of having nukes at all, if you are going to tell the world you're not going to use them? There are only a handful of countries that actually have nuclear capabilities and right now, today, or until Obama screws up the relationship, those countries are our allies. What is the point of making that statement? I think he hopes that promising not to use nukes will keep that nut job in Iran from continuing to pursue nuclear capabilities. But if he really believes that, he really is dumber than a bag of hammers. Imagine if Harry Truman had implemented this same asinine policy during World War II. There were no other countries in the world, at that time, which had "the bomb". If Truman had made that promise, he couldn't have attacked Japan and ended the war and who knows, we might all be speaking Japanese today. But Truman, unlike Obama, actually had political experience prior to taking over the presidency and was more concerned with protecting Americans than looking presidential. To quote the band Chicago, this was strangely prescient way back in 1975:

America needs you

Harry Truman

Harry could you please come home

Things are looking bad

I know you would be mad

To see what kind of men

Prevail upon the land you love

America's wondering

How we got here

Harry all we get is lies

We're gettin' safer cars

Rocket ships to mars

From men who'd sell us out

To get themselves a piece of power

I think that about sums up the Obama presidency. Now, the only change I'm hoping for is regime change.
