Democratic Party isn’t totally self-destructive
House Democrat Stephen Lynch, from Boston, and also one of preposterous Pelosi’s whips, said that all the shenanigans being discussed by House leadership are disingenuous and would damage the credibility of the House. All I can say to that – “Was it the smell of burning coffee that woke you up?” Their credibility is already damaged by attempint to push through a gargantuan bill that allows the federal government to take over one sixth of the economy. But I guess better late than never, considering the he said he’ll vote no this weekend. Since it is a whip’s job to “whip” members into line, figuratively speaking, wonder how he’ll deal with urging members to vote on healthcare when he doesn't believe its in the best interest of government credibility?
What’s the End Game Here?
Either most Democrats, Lynch and a few others aside, are living in a media-free cocoon or they really don’t care what we think. Public opinion weighs against Obama’s healthcare reform plan. A March 9, 2010 Gallup poll shows that 45% of us approve of the plan while 48% disapprove. If they are living in a cocoon, they are going to have a serious rude awakening come November when most of them are jobless. Unfortunately, even if they are jobless, they’ll still get taxpayer subsidized healthcare for the rest of their lives, so what do they care? The more vexing question is what is really going on if they really don’t care what we think? If they know they are facing potentially huge losses in November, what do they know that we don’t that is whipping them into such a frenzy to get this thing passed? It’s as if Pelosi is David Farragut re-incarnated, but instead of “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,” it’s “Damn the polls, full speed ahead”. Why? Do they have some plan in the wings to win America back before November? Another stimulus package? Free cars for everyone from Government Motors? There has to be a reason that the Democratic leadership doesn’t appear to be afraid of pushing this beast through. I, for one, want to know what it is.
Fool Me Once
The House may pull the "deem and pass" stunt hoping that the Senate will modify their bill to match the updated House version. Any representatives who believe that Obama is going to allow the Senate a second look are delusional. We all know that as soon as the House passes the Senate bill, no matter what machinations they go through to do it, once approved Obama is slapping his John Hancock on it so fast it will make their poor little heads spin. He is clearly not operating in good faith here - no matter what Harry Reid promises, if it's passed both houses of Congress, Obama is going to sign it and lock it up. If a representative is stupid enough to think that if they go along and vote for it because the Senate is going to send it back, they are some kind of gullible. Come November, when they claim they got fooled into voting for it, kindly remind them who they work for and say 'buh-bye'.
One Possible Outcome
We all know the mainstream media long ago gave up any protection deserved under the Constitution when it became the willing mistress of the progressive left. Of course, there are rare occasions when the press may ask a tough question, but it’s akin to an abused woman asking her abuser where he was last night, knowing full well she doesn’t care and isn’t going to do anything about it. Most interviews and press conferences are nothing more than, at the very least, a figurative massage, if not an all-out make-out session. They have no objectivity, no interests but their own and no desire to honestly report the truth about what goes on in the corridors of power. I think that if the healthcare monstrosity passes this weekend, the media will immediately go into a full-court press (multiple puns intended) to divert attention from healthcare to everything but – March Madness, jobs, or even a renewed interest in our police action against enemy combatants of the militant variety. It will be interesting to watch how quickly healthcare fades from the frontpages to a non-issue.
